JESS3 / The State of The Internet from Jesse Thomas on Vimeo.
Here’s a fun to watch presentation originally given by Jesse Thomas at an AIGA Baltimore event that shares a sampling of the staggering statistics on the subject of the internet. Coincidentally the Twin City’s own Spunk Design Machine was just over there so something seems to be afoot in Maryland.
Anyway, this presentation is an interesting exercise in info graphics via video. My only complaint would be that each piece is often broken into a two part delivery that, given the pace, left me struggling to keep up at times. Still it’s lot’s of fun to watch and since it is linked right here on your trusty RedBlackBrown blog you don’t need to go to Baltimore and you can watch it twice to make sure you don’t miss anything. Just another public service we provide.

This is a great visualization of the creative process. love it.

PBS has done it again. An intriguing look at intelligent people doing interesting things. Nothing blows up. There are no scantily clad women. No murders. No esp flashbacks at the scene of a horrific crime. And, there will be no commercials – hallelujah! If you are not used to television of this quality you’ll be delighted to know you have until Summer to work up to it. Start by checking out the trailer at citizenarchitectfilm.com.
The photographs in this series by French photographer Denis Darzacq are arresting enough on their own—untouched images of Parisian hip hop and contemporary dancers frozen mid-jump, mid-spin, and mid-flip in postures that often convey a sense of indifference towards the approaching earth.

And then you find out how the series came about: From French Culture: “It was a carefully crafted response of Darzacq and a group of young French people to the alienation of youths on suburban housing estates after the riots that shook France in 2005 … A depiction of an entire generation in France in free fall, ignored by society, their energy untapped and unused.”

See the entire series and a video of a photoshoot.
This is a pretty good Mad Men parody.
A Still More Glorious Dawn Awaits
If, like me, you grew up watching Carl Sagan – creator of the video series Cosmos and the book Pale Blue Dot – you already know what a bad ass he was. Now John Boswell has remixed Carl Sagan (who no doubt would be a good sport about it) for a new generation. The song also features a brief cameo by Stephen Hawking who’s book “A Brief History of Time” needs to be read with great deliberation.
I hope the more contemporary beat of this video will inspire a new generation to enjoy the products of these brilliant scientific minds.
Waiter...there's a fly in my soup and he wants a raise
This just made my short list of the craziest marketing stunts of all time that will only be impressive the first time they’re done. Those flies must have been exhausted by the end of the day but the human overlords seemed to enjoy it. I’d tell you who is responsible for equipping flies with tiny signs but the site is in German (which is one of over 6999 languages I can’t read).
