Not sure how much exposure these got in print ads around the UK or at the event, but these posters by Tavis Coburn for last months BAFTA awards (British Academy of Film & Television Actors) are awfully nice. One for each Best Picture nomination. Kay as long as we’re on the subject, why do books turned movie always say Now A Major Motion Picture? Major? As opposed to what? God.
But these posters are sweet. Thanks Slashfilm and BlackBook.

One of the hardest things about a long career in design is thinking about all the of interesting people I’ve encountered and enjoyed working with who then for one reason or another have disappeared over the horizon. I’ve moved around a fair bit so despite the best efforts of a cadre of social media that list is getting pretty long.
What fun it is then to suddenly rediscover someone and find that they are thriving and as interesting as ever. So it is with Rachel (Dunagan) Wiles who after briefly sharing a little Colle+McVoy with me has hung her own shingle intriguingly entitled Benign Objects. Rachel has been creating stationary and invitations like the two above “birdies” and “squirrels” and chronicling interesting design discoveries on her blog. Check ‘em out and drop her a line of encouragement or better yet give her a call and hire her for an assignment. That way you’ll get to enjoy her southern accent.
birdhive (sweet hair) prints now in the shop!

well, the sweet hair poster show closed a couple of weeks ago. and since we have about 20 posters left and some interest from those not in minneapolis, we’ve added them to our shop. they’re metallic gold on warm white stock and sized for an ikea ribba frame.
additionally, in the next couple of weeks, we’ll be reprinting to add some other color options, so stay tuned. right now, we’re planning brown on blue stock, gold on brown, red on ivory, and a spring green on white… i guess what i’m saying is that if gold isn’t your thing, sit tight, there are more on the way.
oh, and i shouldn’t forget to mention that 25% of each sale will be donated to locks of love.

Very pretty to look at on their website with the horizontal scrolling and the overlays and things of that nature. But you’ll need to order a hardcopy to actually read the articles. See also issue 1 and issue 2.
we know what burlesque did last summer

burlesque of north america, the ridiculously talented designers and poster-makers (buy their posters here) opened a show last saturday at first amendment arts in good ol’ nordeast. entitled “we know what we did last summer,” the show is a retrospective of burlesque’s prolific 2008. and you’ll have more than enough time to check this show out: it runs through march 24.

Absolutely stunning textures, calligraphy and all of it masterfully restrained. Check out all of his work at dustinarnold.com.
