Tomorrow this will all be over and we’ll go back to talking about design and such, but today, it’s about voting for change. But if you don’t want to vote for change, how about a free cup of coffee? Starbucks is giving away free coffee to anyone who has voted. So please, whoever you are voting for, just vote.
The video was inspired by The Girl Effect which is another great cause. I’m not a huge Starbucks fan, but it’s good to see big companies doing things like this.
Thanks to everyone who came to participate in the Use Your Voice event organized by Colle+McVoy’s own Nina Orezzoli. We got a lot of attention and a few questions and if even one more person is prompted to vote it was worth it. Here are a few images of the scene at 9th and Nicollet. A few more on Flickr

If you don’t vote you are allowing yourself to be silenced – giving up your voice on matters that are important to the future of our country. Moved By Silence is staging an event at 9th and Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis to remind the public how significant that form of self-censorship is. Gathering starts at 4:30pm Monday, November 3 (tonight) with a dramatic five minutes of silence happening precisely at 5:15pm. Be there tonight and be at the polls (find your polling place on Google) Tuesday morning.

The AIGA continues its tradition of organizing the creation and distribution of Get Out the Vote posters. This year a small number have been printed as a limited edition set. However, each poster in the collection, which currently stands at 313, can be downloaded as a PDF allowing you to print your own favorites. There is still time for members to contribute a design and if even I can pull it off (above) I know you can do a smashing design.

Ever since Cameron Moll’s excellent post about Influence vs. Inspiration I have found myself looking at the way I work differently. Therefore, it is exciting to see how the candidacy of Barak Obama has inspired so many creative people to contribute their craft to the movement. This is apparent in many places but take a look at Design/ers for Obama. You can see evidence of influential styles of course but the variety of posters suggests that artists and designers are feeling a connection between the Obama movement and something deep in their world view. (The posters can be downloaded as pdfs. And, they still appear to be accepting submissions.) Regardless of how you choose to vote you have to admit that as an artist/designer these are interesting times.
Remember to vote on Tuesday, November 4.

I just stumbled across Bon bon kakku, which appears to be like Threadless for fabric design. Submit, vote, and have your fabric made.
There are some nice fabrics in the store, but from a quick browse it doesn’t look like the competition is too fierce. Any pattern designers out there? Seems like a good shot to get some fabric made.
