file under gift: typewriter cufflinks

is it just me or do guys seem more difficult to buy for than girls? i mean, seriously, a pretty scarf and almost any girl i know is happy… but guys? just not that easy. or at least the guys i know. but these vintage typewriter key cufflinks from joy’s jewels on etsy seem like a great gift. you can even choose which keys you want. and if you’re not in the market for cufflinks, joy’s shop also has bracelets, earrings and necklaces. (i think this cash register key bracelet is rather delightful.)

Obama is Your New Umbrella

I don’t even wear belts let alone carry an umbrella but dang I am loving this illuminated rain-keeper-offer by Yanko Design. The kinetic energy of the raindrops hitting the conductive surface powers the light. That kind of inventiveness makes me smile. Btw if you’ve never been or need a smile check out Barack Obama is Your New Bicycle. Got ta love it.

Pretty things

I’ve been stalking Lauren Haupt’s little etsy shop for awhile now because I’m absolutely smitten with her little wings necklace (see above left). Her pieces are quite unique and even prettier in person (if that’s possible).

She has a cute interview on etsy as well.

oh, orangyporangy!

is it even possible to not love orangyporangy? especially when they have such delightful skirts? and dresses? and bags? but really, with natalie’s delightful mix of new and vintage fabrics, one of these skirts is definitely on my wish list…

and all you lucky readers in chicago, orangyporangy will be at the renegade holiday craft fair (at the pulaski park auditorium) this weekend… and for our ny readers, at the bust magazine craftacular (at the metropolitan pavilion) the next. oh, how i wish natalie and mike were bringing their wares to no coast craft-o-rama here in mpls… (sigh)

luxe deluxe

oh my. i came across the gorgeous jewelry of luxe deluxe last week and actually felt my knees go weak. so very weak, in fact, that i sent a link to my husband (who i had told never to bother with jewelry for me). and being the fantastic, wonderful person that he is, he bought me three (yes! three!) necklaces. i know, i know. i am too lucky.

anyways, luxe deluxe’s creator, adrienne morikawa, is based in edinburgh and mixes lovely vintage bits with new materials. each piece is handmade and even more beautiful in person. you can purchase via the luxe deluxe site or etsy.

New Makr releases

Makr who handcrafts awesome leather wallets (including this one which I recently gifted to my boy) just released some new limited run totes and duffel bags. The craftsmanship on their wallets are amazing and it looks like these bags won’t disappoint either.

Fall is for Designers

Cindy’s city bike arrived yesterday (a Velorbis Victoria Classic of Danish design, built in Germany and shipped through Boston via The Dutch Bicycle Company) just in time to ride over and vote in Saint Paul on a spectacular fall morning. Then a stylish and casual ride to work. What a way for a designer to travel! For more cycle style inspiration check out Copenhagencyclechic.com
