Hello Friends of redblackbrown,
You may have noticed that over the past few months the pace of posting has slowed significantly. We’ve noticed this too. We’ve all been busy with new exciting projects and exploring other ventures.
So, after much debate (some of it with thai food & fortune cookies, yum!), we’ve decided to address this by shutting down our little space in the blogosphere.
Now don’t fear! redblackbrown is not going away, we’re just going a bit into hibernation while we restructure and redesign. We’ll be back soon with a bigger, badder, more awesome (we hope!) website where you can keep tabs on what we’re doing collectively and individually.
Until then, you can check out what we’re doing in our individual ventures:

Billykirk make things with stories.
We live in a world full of things that can be thrown away without regret. Things that don’t have any deep meaning. Perhaps this is ok, but I think we lose something when our things don’t have meaning. Our houses become dumping grounds for meaningless things without stories. That’s why when I hear about people who are bucking the trend of meaningless stuff. People who are creating pieces with stories. I listen and I support them. Because I think if we fill our life with things with stories it will be much richer than if we fill it with empty things.
Chris and Kirk Bray are doing this. They founded Billykirk in 1999 to make handcrafted leather goods that have a story to tell. This video, shot by The Scout gives great insight into them and their philosophy. It’s a bit long (~8 minutes) but it’s beautifully shot and worth every second you spend watching it.

This is a great visualization of the creative process. love it.

Here’s some frivolous-ness for this friday. Ze Frank has this fun little virtual kaleidoscope toy on his website. It’s amazing how simple lines and shapes can make such nice patterns. I just lost about 15 minutes playing with it, now you can too.

If you’ve been paying any attention to the internet today then you probably already know that the amazing design and infographic goodness that is the Feltron Annual Report came out today.
If not, now you do.
ps. Viewing will probably be slow as it seems like the entire internet is intent on viewing Mr. Felton’s intimate life details for 2009 right this second thank you very much please.
