nook (the barnes & noble reader)

barnes and noble is launching their new ebook reader, nook, on november 30. it hits the same price point as amazon’s kindle but has some key differences, most notably the color touch screen, built in wifi and mp3 player. wired’s review is very positive, so it will be interesting to see what happens when it hits the market.
of course, personally, i think it will be a very long time until i’m ready to part with paper books, but i totally want to see one of these in action.
amendment: i totally forgot to mention one of the nook’s big advantages over the kindle – a loan feature! that’s right, you can loan nook ebooks to friends (as opposed to the walled kindle).

Here we go again – another piece of technology for Todd to be the last to adopt. Probably pretty neat but I sure love the experience of books, libraries and the simple experience of reading something that doesn’t have a self proclaimed interface.
I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts on what happens if/when books switch to a software license model. Will we no longer be able to lend books to a friend or sell them to a used book store? What happens when a classic we’ve had for years is suddenly incompatible with the new os?

i know i’ll be slow to adapt too. :)
in reading the reviews, it seems that one of the advantages of the nook (that i forgot to mention, i’ll amend my post!) is that there is a loan function (as opposed to the walled kindle), which i think is a vast improvement.
