We seem to have been doing a lot of updating and refreshing of identities here at work. It seems to be the catchy thing to do. The fuzz in St. Paul refreshed their cop cars to look less like cop cars and more like rolling ads for COPS: St. Paul. They said it was to save money on custom pinstriping fenders after ramming into getaway cars. Not their exact words, but that’s the jist. The Minneapolis Police don’t have that problem because they’re pulling people over every 5 minutes outside my office for turning left between the hours of 7am and 9am. I got my ticket in April. So I’ve had a chance to consider the Minneapolis traffic ticket.

Great design. Hard working, as they say.
Unassuming, yet it has the same recognition potency in the Minneapolis cityscape as the golden arches or this guy.*
But I think it needs a refresh. I think it’s ripe for this age of variable data printing and targeted consumer messaging. Add the fact that cops print up tickets right in the cruiser and you’ve got a perfect storm.
Behold the ticket of the future.

This is a terrific idea Bill. Like giving sagely advice and like receiving a fortune cookie where the fortune is on the outside and the treat inside.
